Porum Lodge #351 Traveling Gavel Rules

  1. The lodge challenging to take possession of the gavel must be a legally constituted lodge.
  2. The Master or secretary of the holding lodge must be informed of the intention of the visiting lodge members to obtain the gavel before the visit at least 48hrs ahead of time to prepare for refreshments .
  3. In order for a challenging lodge to take possession of the gavel, they must have a higher number of members in attendance at a tiled meeting of the lodge currently in possession of the gavel.
  4. Each member of the challenging lodge must present a current dues card showing membership in the challenging lodge.
  5. There must be at least 4 visiting members from the visiting lodge before the traveling gavel can be obtained.
  6. The gavel may travel back to the same lodge without limit.
  7. There is no time limit for a gavel to stay in one place for any duration of time before going back into play
  8. A small 1”x2” plate with the winning lodge name, number and date must be placed on the lid of the gavel case in order to follow the gavels history of where it has traveled. The week it has been obtained
  9. Ties : If the holding lodge and a visiting lodge have the same amount of members at the visiting time the gavel remains at the holding lodge.
    1. If there are multiple lodges attempting to acquire the Traveling Gavel, The lodge with the most members wins. if it is a tie with the holding lodge then the gavel remains with the holding lodge , if the tie is between the visiting lodges then the tie breaker is most mileage from the visiting lodge to the holding lodge
    2. After a lodge has obtained the Traveling Gavel from a holding lodge by the new lodges next stated meeting the new holding lodge must announce on the OKMasonMail that they have the Traveling Gavel and its location within 24hours of capturing the Traveling Gavel
